What Happens When We Age?

As we age, our facial structure and skin begin to change in subtle—and eventually more noticeable—ways. One of the key factors is the gradual breakdown of collagen and the shifting of fat pads in the subcutaneous layer (the deepest layer of the skin).

These fat pads provide support and volume to the face. Over time, they shrink and reposition, leading to visible changes in facial contours.

The ageing process begins as early as our 20’s, the body naturally loses about 1% of its collagen each year. This process can be sped up by factors like sun exposure, smoking, and poor diet. Collagen loss accelerates after 40 and during menopause, affecting the skin’s
firmness and elasticity.

Common signs of aging include:

– Increased visibility of fine lines and wrinkles

– Hollowing under the eyes

– Loss of collagen and elasticity

– Rough or uneven skin texture

– Deepening of nasolabial folds (smile lines), due to volume loss in the cheeks

– Flattening and volume loss in the cheeks

– Wrinkles and lines around the mouth and nose

– Sagging skin, especially around the jawline

– Development of fullness under the chin (double chin)

While these changes are a natural part of aging, there are a variety of non-surgical treatments available to help restore volume, smooth lines, and rejuvenate the skin—enhancing your natural beauty at every stage of life.

Your Treatment Procedure:
What to Expect?

At Aesthetics & Skin by Kirsten, your safety, comfort, and satisfaction are our top priorities.

During your visit, our experienced Registered Nurse will guide you through each step of the process to ensure a seamless and positive experience.

1. Personal Consultation

Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation. We'll discuss your goals, review your medical history, and assess the treatment area to ensure you’re a suitable candidate.

2. Tailored Treatment Plan

Based on your individual needs and desired outcomes, a personalised treatment plan will be created. This includes a breakdown of recommended treatments, techniques, and pricing.

3. Preparation & Numbing

To ensure your comfort, a topical or local anaesthetic may be applied depending on the procedure. We take every step to minimise discomfort during treatment.

4. Precise Treatment Delivery

Our highly trained Nurse will administer your aesthetic treatment using either a fine needle or cannula technique. This step is carried out with precision, care, and a deep understanding of facial anatomy to achieve natural, balanced results.

5. Post-Treatment Care & Review

Once your treatment is complete, your results will be assessed, and clinical photographs may be taken for your confidential file. You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions to support a smooth recovery and optimal outcome.

Pre-Treatment Information

To help you achieve the best possible results while minimising any potential risks, please carefully follow these pre-treatment guidelines:

Pre-treatment Guidelines:

1. Consultation

Book a consultation with our team to discuss your goals, medical history, and any questions or concerns you may have.

2. Medications & Supplements

Please inform us about any medications, supplements, or herbal remedies you are currently taking.

3. Allergies

Notify us of any allergies you have, particularly to medications, bees, or local anaesthetics such as lignocaine.

4. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, please let us know, as some treatments may not be suitable during this time.

5. Alcohol & Smoking

Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Both can increase the likelihood of bruising and may interfere with the healing process. Smoking, in particular, raises the risk of infection for lip treatments.

6. Avoid Blood Thinners

Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen for the recommended period before and after treatment, as they can increase bruising risk. Always consult your doctor before stopping any medication.

7. Sun Exposure

Limit sun exposure and avoid tanning beds or excessive UV exposure before your treatment to reduce the risk of skin irritation.

Post-Treatment Care

To help you achieve the best results and minimise side effects, please follow these important post-treatment care guidelines:

Post-treatment Guidelines:

1. Cold Compress

Apply a cold compress or ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to the treated area to reduce swelling and bruising.

2. Avoid Touching

Refrain from touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent infection and ensure the product settles properly.

3. Sun Protection

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours after treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin.

4. Makeup

Avoid applying makeup for the first 24 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of infection.

5. Avoid Exercise

Refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 hours to minimise bruising and swelling.

6. Travel Restrictions

Avoid international flights for 2 weeks and domestic flights for 48 hours after treatments involving aesthetics.

7. Dental Work

If possible, postpone dental procedures for at least 4 weeks following any treatment involving volume loss or enhancements.

8. Medications & Supplements

Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo, and fish oils, as these can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.

9. Follow-Up Appointment

Schedule your follow-up appointment—usually around 2 weeks post-treatment—to assess your progress and discuss any additional treatments or adjustments.
